A Day with the Humane Society of Catawba County
Several employees here at Martin Starnes and Associates, CPAs, PA (MSA) recently volunteered at the Humane Society of Catawba County. Upon our arrival, we were met by the friendly staff and explained just a few of the wonderful volunteer opportunities available – such as cat cuddling, dog walking, cleaning, and various administrative tasks. We thoroughly enjoyed our day assisting at the shelter. The highlights for us were many and included walking and playing with the awesome dogs in the nicely furnished dog park and cuddling with some cute and adorable cats.
We also learned that The Humane Society of Catawba County offers many services to the community such as low cost spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, and other veterinary services at reasonable prices. In addition, they provide fundraising events throughout the community. They even offer birthday parties to help educate children about the importance of caring for animals.
According to their website, the mission of The Humane Society is to “make our community a better place by serving as an advocate for companion animals. Our vision for the future is that no adoptable animal will be euthanized in Catawba County, and that animal cruelty and inhumane treatment of animals will cease to exist.” They currently have two locations of their “no-kill” animal shelters - one is located in Newton and the other in Hickory. Many loving dogs and cats are available for adoption and are hoping to make your home their forever home.
Kari Dunlap, Audit Manager with MSA, describes her experience volunteering to help the animals as, “I love that MSA allows our employees to get involved with local organizations. I enjoyed getting to volunteer at the Humane Society and seeing what a difference they make with animals in our area. I look forward to volunteering again in the future!” Everyone at MSA looks forward to volunteering again soon!
