On January 30, 2017, Martin Starnes & Associates, CPAs, P.A. (MSA) rolled out a reading program for employees called the First Fifteen. This program, which was researched and tested with accounting firms and other businesses throughout the country over the last five years, has shown to have made a huge impact on the participants both professionally and personally.
At MSA, the program works as follows:
- The firm provides a library of non-fictional books including; self-help or motivational, business, management, leadership, and spiritual.
- Employees spend a few minutes at the beginning of each work day reading and are compensated for the time spent.
- At the completion of each book, employees are asked to report the title, author, and number of pages read for tracking purposes and to provide a key or resonating point to share with others.
- Periodically, the statistics of the program and the key points are communicated firm-wide.
Beyond the educational benefits, our goal with this program is to create a positive avenue for the continued growth of our employees. We are proud of our First Fifteen participants, who from late January through the end of July, have completed 101 books (23 different titles), by 17 authors and have read 14,078 pages.
