Greater Hickory Classic Golf Tournament

This year, Martin Starnes & Associates, CPAs, P.A. sponsored the Sports Business Symposium luncheon on Monday, June 6th. We had a great turnout for this event and appreciate everyone that came out. The event featured a panel of Billy Casper, winner of the U.S. Open in 1959 and 1966, Jerry Pate, winner of the U.S. Open in 1976 and Ron Green, Jr., golf writer with the Charlotte Observer. Dave Goren, Executive Director, National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association and Hall of Fame, served as moderator for the discussion.

Jeremy Fortner, Shane Fox, and J.P. Jones got a chance of a lifetime to play with the Great Grand Champions on Wednesday, June 8th. They played with Charlie Sifford who was the first African-American to play on the PGA Tour and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2004 and Walter Morgan, who has three Senior PGA Tour wins and holds the record for the "Age Shooter". In 2002, at the age of 61, Morgan shot a 60 in the AT&T Canada Senior Open Championship.

There were a lot of opportunities to volunteer for the golf tournament. It takes a great deal of coordinating, planning and volunteers to make this a successful event. MSA's staff was challenged to volunteer their time the week of the tournament and they certainly came through. We had 26 people volunteer. Over half of our employees volunteered their time and talents to the golf tournament. MSA was represented in player registration, finance, hospitality, Administration/Will Call and the driving range. Despite the heat, we had a great time. Our firm is very proud of our community and gives back as much in time and support as we can.
