Hickory Christmas Parade 2017
On November 17, 2017, employees of Martin Starnes & Associates CPAs, P.A. had the honor of joining the Fallen Heroes Ministry from Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in the Hickory Christmas Parade. The Fallen Heroes Ministry honors our men and women in all branches of service who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
During the parade, we carried 228 posters of North Carolina residents who have given their lives in war for the sake of our freedom. While walking in the parade, some clapped, some cried, some saluted, and some thanked us, but everyone seemed amazed by the number of posters that were being carried. Among the volunteers that carried posters were three gold star families, relatives of U.S. military members who died in battle. Each family carried the poster of their loved one.
My favorite comment heard while walking was from a little girl that looked up at her mom, who was talking to a friend, and said, “shh, you need to be quiet and clap.” While we try to teach our children all about life, sometimes our children teach us what life is all about, and this little girl understood that it was time to give reverence to our fallen soldiers.
The parade was a heartfelt experience and a time to remember those we should never forget. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13
