If your business sponsors an employee retirement plan, such as a 401(k), now is the time to prepare for an important filing deadline.
For most calendar-year retirement plans, Form 5500 is due July 31, 2026. This annual return provides information about your retirement plan to the U.S. Department of Labor and the IRS. Filing on time helps keep your plan compliant and can help you avoid unnecessary penalties.
If you are unable to meet the July 31 deadline, you may request an extension by filing Form 5558 before the due date. An approved extension generally provides up to 2½ additional months, extending the filing deadline to October 15, 2026.
Do not wait until the last minute. Gathering plan information and completing the required filings can take time, especially if you work with multiple service providers.
If you are unsure about your filing requirements or need assistance, contact us before the deadline.
